RIP James
See, I'm going to the OU game Saturday, and after BELOW-normal temps the last 2
games (to go along with below-normal offense), I'm not sure I'm acclimated
anymore. To the temps AND the lack of offense! We should'a known that summer
was going to roar back. Mother Nature loves to aggravate me.
What, making it about me is bad?? Well who am I going to make it about? You,
Lt. Weinberg? You, Scott Baio??
Check out this graph of the departure from avg. statewide highs from the Mesonet
since late August. That's about 10 days of cooler than normal weather, smack
dab in the throes of early September heat country.
Now to make it about folks that actually DO matter, like those that are trying
to make a living producing our food, it's also bad news. Drought and extreme
heat go hand in hand, like butter and popcorn. Steak and gravy.
Scott Baio and Willia Aames?
In this case, DROUGHT is in charge.
We can show a similar graph like the above temperature version, except for
accumulated rainfall. This one shows the dry weather started just in time for
summer, accelerating through the last 3 months.
Don't believe me? I don't blame you. I once told my kids that thunder is from
clouds bumping into each other. But in this case, believe the Mesonet rainfall
maps since June 1!
As much as I like summer, it's had its run (apostrophe accomplishment achieved!).
Time to start shutting the heat down. Unfortunately, this looks like an
extended bout with above normal temps.
That's to go along with very little rain, at least for the next week or so.
Still looking for that next big cold front. Until then, enjoy the next couple
of mildly mild days.
