Well it never fails...after my epic (in my own mind) drought Tick yesterday, where
I Tocked about how bad the drought was, somebody was BOUND to get blasted.
Sallisaw, I take all the blame (not really, upon advice of counsel).
Not only was Sallisaw's rainfall total of 5.92 inches yesterday more than they
had seen over the previous 40 days (0.93 inches from June 11 to July 20), the 5.85
inches they saw from 4:45pm to 7pm yesterday was more than ANYBODY in the state had
seen in those 41 days, INCLUDING yesterday.
So in 2 hours and 45 minutes yesterday, Sallisaw managed to nearly double the
field:
Sallisaw July 21 (4:45-7pm): 5.85"
Top 5 elsewhere June 11-July 21:
Medford 3.31"
Boise City 3:35"
Woodward 2.94"
Kenton 2.82"
Eva 2.54"
Now this is what was measured in a gauge. Remember Woodward had their own
bigtime rainfall event back on July 13 where they received 5.16 inches at a
non-Mesonet site. And the radar estimated fields on the maps show a few other
locations across the state getting up above the 4 to 5-inch mark. But as far
as Mesonet totals go, quite an event yesterday.
But we talked yesterday about how that stalled front across the state might
actually weaken that heat dome and provide some focus for storms, and it appears
it worked a bit too well. There was a ton of moisture across eastern OK
yesterday waiting to be utilized, other than just broiling folks alive with
nasty heat index values. See Sallisaw at 115 degrees, for example.
Heck, it's raining in parts of the state right now!
It's pretty spotty, but if you're under it, you're good to go.
Nice of it to rain, but it's right back to the fire today for another week
until we see a possible break. It's just showing up on the 7-day temperature
forecast for next Thursday.
AND the day 7 rain forecast.
By the way...the strangled toad? We heard it was Kermitcide.
