Whither summer?

(Enter scene: old man sitting on rocking chair, sometime recently, talking to a
young child)

Nope Timmy (I was going to say Ronald, but then I started thinking of
Ronald McDonald and I got hungry and I can't leave to go to McDonald's
because I'm writing...thus, Timmy. Return to scene.), this isn't really
summer. Why I remember when it used to get hot and STAY hot in summer. This
here is what I'd call spring. We had summer back in the middle of June. Oh,
you don't remember? It was a glorious time. Highs got up into the hundreds
out west, and it was so steamy over the rest of the state that you could
barely breathe! Then it started raining again and we went back to spring.
Back in my day, last year, it would get hot in May, stay that way until
late September, then you'd see summer again a few times through the fall.
This year we might see winter arrive in August! Can you believe that, Ronald?
I mean Timmy? Well, okay, story time's over. Hey, you want to go to
McDonald's?

(End scene)

Okay, so maybe we're exaggerating a bit, but I'll be darned if I'm going to
call this a true Oklahoma summer. Proof positive...I've had more mosquito bites
than all the days above hundred at all the Mesonet sites this year.

Heck, the Westville Mesonet site over in far eastern Oklahoma (I know, right?!)
has only seen 7 days at or above 90 degrees this year.

You wanna know something else? About the only thing I dislike more than winter
is mosquitoes. It's close, but I'm going to go with mosquitoes for now. Ask me
again in January.

The outlook for the rest of July is looking more and more like we're going to
stay mild, and probably into the first part of August as well.

As for the rain, we aren't done yet. After our drenching over the weekend, at
least for the southeastern half or so of the state, we should see more rain
chances Wednesday, and a bit lower chances everyday after that for the next
week or so.

Oh, by the way Timmy, we didn't even talk about ice storms for Halloween. Get
ready.
