One MILLION days of rain
You know a lot of public and neighborhood pools open up at the end of this week,
right? And the water temperature is going to struggle to get to 70 degrees,
because we haven't seen many temperatures even approaching 80 so far this year.
90s? Playoffs? Seriously? We did get pretty warm out west yesterday, so their
pools, if they're not empty due to drought, will be somewhat more tolerable.
Still can't sniff a 90 over the eastern two-thirds of the state.
Now that's not TOO unusual. Just looking at OKC data, which goes back to 1891, over
a third of the time OKC hasn't seen their first 90 until June, and in 1899 it
wasn't until July 5 they hit the mark. Just two years ago in 2019 it took until
June 20, and that was a year with a big spring rainy season, much like this one.
Just in time, however, Mother Nature is going to kick up the heat ahead of a
strong cold front (of course) due to arrive tomorrow. We should see more 90s
out west and some pretty decent 80s here in central and eastern OK.
And then it all comes crashing down once again following the front on Friday.
All that heat, all that moisture hanging around, you just know that's gong to
cause a bit of mayhem. Looks like we're going to have a couple of "those" days
in Oklahoma, first out west tonight and then possibly farther east tomorrow.
Here are severe weather outlooks from SPC, with all the gory details.
TODAY:
TOMORROW:
And what comes with that, except lions and tigers and bears (OH MY!)? How about
more rain. The folks out west need it...the peeps to the east don't. We will
see if Mother Nature obliges.
But anytime you see a blotch of cooler than normal weather expected in the
summer here in the Southern Plains, it is almost always due to rain, or the
expectations thereof. And sure enough, to match the top graphic, we see
increased odds of above normal rainfall directly over the Southern Plains
next week.
And the 7-day rain forecast is looking pretty ugly for those that don't need
any more rain, but pretty pretty for those that do.
I'll take a 100, please. That's degrees, not days of rain.
