Tornadoes with laser beams
Tornadoes? TORNADOES? Are you serious, tornadoes? Heck, the hail and the floods
will probably get ya! Our fearsome storm system that just days ago looked like
a possible outbreak situation has thankfully been fouled up just enough that now
it SEEMS (Ticker staff not responsible for historic outbreaks after downplaying
severe weather chances, or for any further movies made by Nicolas Cage...just
thought we'd throw that in there) we have just another spring severe weather
setup. Here are the SPC outlooks and what they show for Oklahoma and surrounding
areas. As mentioned above, the hail looks like it could get a bit excessive at
times.
And yes, the tornado threat at this time seems low (but not zero). It is indeed a
complicated situation with today's forecast. Clouds will help us, as will any
storms that form early. Things get weird later today, however. The dryline
could surge east and kick off storms (in addition to anything to forms in the
warm sector east of the dryline), and then move back west later today and then
set off storms all over again in a more severe conducive environment (or it
could be less!). Then the storms will probably fill in and line out and then we
see wind and hail be the main hazards.
But the flash and river flooding could also be a problem as we mentioned
yesterday. We can see the same types of outlooks for both flooding types from
the Weather Prediction Center, as well as their rainfall prediction for the
next few days.
And those to the west of the dryline get to worry about fire risk.
But this change in the setup is a good thing. Well, except for the hail. And
wind. And tornadoes. And excessive rains.
