Never tell me the odds!

I don't know what to tell ya. It's gonna take a miracle to get a white Christmas
in Oklahoma this year. I know, how about you just make believe TODAY is Christmas
Day so those of you in the northwest can have an imaginary white Christmas, and
the rest of us can at least have a gray, wintry day to stay in and open presents,
drink hot cocoa, eat some nice baked ham, and...well, rats. It's not Christmas
Day, is it? And good thing because if you were reading the Ticker on Christmas
Day, well what a dreary holiday that would be!

The freezing line seemed to plunge a lot farther south than what was expected, so
where there is precipitation falling to the north of that line, slippery things
are happening. The Mesonet is kind enough to put the current freezing line -- as
determined by our ~120 stations across the state -- on the radar map to show
where we should be concerned.

We have snow in the northwest, and then some drizzle, freezing drizzle, rain,
freezing rain, AND some thunderstorms to the southeast. Enough of a mess for a
winter weather advisory (traveler's advisory) from the NWS.

Other than that, I'm afraid the weather after today is going to be pretty much
boring until at least Christmas. We can allow for something to sneak in there
somewhere, given that it is still 9 days away. The bright side, other than all
that sun we're going to see, is that you shouldn't have any problems getting
any last minute shopping done. Well, at least the driving part. Here's one
model's view of the air temperatures at 6pm on Christmas Day.

Lots of 50s and 60s there, so even a bit warmer earlier on Christmas Day before
the sun goes down. At least according to that model. It will make returning
everything on the 26th a lot easier as well. See, silver linings!
