Call it
Oh, it's raining in the northwest?
Rain schmain, let's talk temperatures! At the risk of calling it too early...well,
I'm calling it: summer is over! Until Saturday, at least, but we'll just call that
a really warm fall day, because after that we get another couple of reinforcing
shots of cold air to put the final nail in the coffin. And it's doubtful that we
have seen out last 90 in the state; maybe, maybe not. But the long, virtually
uninterrupted string of summery days is over. If you get a week off, you have
officially switched from summer to fall.
No, really, do I need to write another analogy, use another tired cliche, or
another climatologiplaination (yes, just made it up...what do you think?) to
convince you? Well, maybe I'm just trying to convince myself. The next couple of
days are certainly autumnal.
Summer meows back on Saturday before getting obliterated again on Sunday.
Now there's nothing drastic here. No freezes or even really chilly weather.
More like "chili" weather, with seasonal temperatures and some rain here or
there. This time last year we'd already had temperatures in the 30s, with
widespread lows in the 40s. But the deal here is we've kicked back the heat
dome enough that when it comes back, it won't be as strong. The next seven days
look like early October.
And then there are *hints* at even colder weather late next week. At this point,
just a fantasy-cast. Or for warmsters like me, a horror-cast.
