The Walking Drought

Okay, why does the SE, with all that lovely drought-reducing rain, get Rick while
to the NW in the lesser rain amounts, they get the much-more-cool-and-awesome
Daryl and Carol? Well, because my wife likes Daryl so I'm a bit jealous. And why
throw Glenn in there? Well, I figure he needs the work. But for you non-Walking
Dead fans, suffice it to say the NW 2/3rds of the state is getting a good dose
of drought intensification. The statistics speak for themselves. Again, I could
pick any time frame from the last 30 days to the year-to-date to show the deficits,
so I'll just stick with the last 30 days.

You can check out all the time periods for yourself here:

And here are a few more depressing graphics.

Yes, it has been 80 DAYS!!! since Woodward has recorded at least a quarter-inch
of rain in a single day. For perspective, that's like 79 days ago, plus one
more.

This is why we really, really need to see more systems like last weekend's, but
this time have it fire up a bit farther to the NW. The latest 7-day precip
forecast is hopeful, and the setup is still iffy (as shown by this neat graphic
from NWS Amarillo).

A quarter-inch here, a half-inch there, fine. But we really need 2 inches here,
3 inches there or we're going to re-name the show "The Walking Fires" here
in Oklahoma.

Oh, here's that 14-day rainfall total map...the non_Neganized version.
