Tropical Storm Newton UNLEASHED!
Get it...Isaac Newton...apples. Wait, was that a myth? No, the apple hitting him
on the head part, not gravity. At any rate, former Hurricane now measly Tropical
Storm Newton is our next best hope for a good soaking rain over Oklahoma. It is
recently moved ashore onto the coast of Mexico from the Gulf of California.
The remnants of Newton are expected to move to the northeast before eventually
stretching into a long trough over northern and western Oklahoma (and we all
know just how painful that can be) in the presence of some very moist air in
place from the Gulf of Mexico.
Newton's remnants will also be in place as a strong cold front approaches from
the northwest on Friday, which will only enhance the chance for showers and
storms, especially across northern and western Oklahoma. Rainfall amounts could
be heavy at times with WPC predicting as much as 5 inches across northern Oklahoma
by the time all the shenanigans are finished, with diminishing amounts as we go
to the southeast.
So to be truthful, some of that rain is due to Newton, some of it is occurring
with a trough of low pressure moving through to our north right now, and then
the additional amounts as the trough and cold front intermingle this weekend.
Here's a better explanation from our friends at the local NWS offices, and
also somebody else to blame it on if things don't go as forecast.
The rain may be iffy, but the cold front is inevitable. And when you wake up
Saturday, it MIGHT be raining, but it will mostly likely be cooler than what
it's been over the past week or so. We're not talking October here:
But we ain't talking this either:
And we might see another decent cold front next week, which is to be expected
as we go through September into October...each front stealing a little more
heat from returning afterward.
Now let's be honest. Isaac Newton was not a handsome man. But let's all be
thankful it wasn't Hurricane Amedeo we're talking about, as in Italian scientist
Amedeo Avogadro.
He may have been a master of molecular theory, but he wasn't much in the looks
department. YIKES!
