Oklahoma's fever broke
No, I'm not talking about Kevin Durant fever (or fervor), but its latest heat
wave. Looking at the maps yesterday, let's just admit that it was downright nasty,
and that's coming from somebody that likes the warmth, albeit the dry heat found
in the Nirvana known as the Oklahoma Panhandle.
Kingfisher was off the charts (but not the map) with a heat index of 116 degrees.
Meanwhile, Goodwell out in the Panhandle had the highest actual air temp at 105
degrees but it's heat index was "only" 100 thanks to the drier air. But lots of
heat index values in the 110-115 range from north central down through southwestern
OK.
It will still be hot today across the southern and central portions of Oklahoma,
but not quite high enough to warrant any heat advisories...yet. Be on the lookout
for those.
Northern Oklahoma will be cooler thanks to showers (some severe) occurring right
now and should remain a bit cooler as a cool front slips into that area over
the next couple of days. That front along with "a bit of energy" (ugh, I can
hear my meteorology professors groaning as I type) slips through the upper-level
flow in the atmosphere, interacting with that front. So there will be a decent
chance of rain continuing this morning into this evening, then again tomorrow.
Speaking of that severe weather/rain, here's the latest radar image as well as
some graphics from the local forecast offices detailing the threat of severe
weather over the next couple of days.
Amounts could be heavy along that frontal boundary, especially if we get a
couple-three rounds of storms along that area.
Otherwise, get some Tylenol handy. The fever is likely to come back next week.
