Ready or not...

Okay, many of you won't, but some of us will. Plus, it is good for those folks
needing to get out in the field and cut wheat, so there's that. But while yesterday
was hot, it wasn't "summer" hot for Oklahoma...about 5-10 degrees above normal in
some areas, but this ain't 2011 we're talking about. Yet. And the heat index
wasn't disastrous either...actually felt a bit cooler thanks to the dry air.

And we will see more of the same today and through the weekend.

And once again, it doesn't look to get "better" (worse for my taste) through much
of next week, with the 8-14 day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction
Center indicating increased odds of above normal temps for that period.

The culprit is this ridge of high pressure we're sitting under, our old
summertime friend. It inhibits clouds, precip and the sinking motion under it
compresses the air and adds to the heat. The Tulsa NWS office gives us their
explanation in a nice graphic.

With acknowledgements of the heat by the other offices as well.

Another indication we've moved into an early summer pattern is the chance of
storms forming along High Plains and possibly moving into the far northwest...
a classic mid-summer pattern. But, there will be a better chance of showers and
storms early next week with a cold front. It's not a gully washer, but perhaps
enough to provide some moist shade for awhile.

Until then, keep those glasses of iced tea coming, extra ice please.
