Wetwork
Come on, I'm not THAT old and I've seen "Network." What's your excuse?
Yes, I'm officially tired of the rain. As much as I like to see weather history
being made, I think we've all had enough. It's raining now, so the totals I'm about
to report will be changing this afternoon and throughout the weekend. Here is a
current radar picture.
According to the real-time Mesonet data, our statewide average for May through
12:45pm is now 9.29", 5.93" above normal -- the 4th wettest May on record and the
6th wettest month of ANY month for the state of Oklahoma.
Highest All-Time May statewide rainfall averages:
1957: 10.54"
1982: 10.38"
1943: 9.66"
2015: 9.29
1902: 9.14"
Sorry 1902.
Highest All-Time monthly statewide rainfall averages
Oct 1941: 10.75"
May 1957: 10.54"
May 1982: 10.38"
May 1943: 9.66"
Jun 2007: 9.51"
May 2015: 9.29"
May 1902: 9.14"
Jul 1950: 9.07"
With still a ton of rain on the way.
CPC is still showing chances for above normal precip for the proceeding week
as well.
And that ain't all. I didn't get to show these yesterday, but here are the June
and June-August CPC outlooks as well.
Increased odds of below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation for
both the June and June-August periods according to CPC. Not a shock they'd show
cooler than normal weather, since wet summer months strongly correlate with
cool summer months (more soil moisture and green vegetation rob some of of that
"Easy Bake Oven" effect from the sun's energy, and of course increased cloudiness
with precip reduces heating at the surface as well).
Get ready for mosquitoes, folks! They might be with us for awhile.
