May's back!

Lows this morning harken back to what we would normally expect in early May. The
odd thing is, in early May this year we were harkening back to February! I hope
that doesn't we'll be experiencing July in September! Check out the lows this
morning and compare those to the records for this date. Obviously records fell
in several areas, some for the second day in a row.




That 49 in Seiling is fairly close to the lowest temperature ever recorded on
this date ... 48 degrees at Buffalo in 1927 and Watts in 1924. There's always
the chance that a COOP site dropped lower than that and we won't know until it
is reported. Fort Supply's number this morning might be pretty interesting!

Highs today should bounce back up into the mid-80s or so.



We're a bit farther off from the highest temp ever recorded on July 2 ... 116
degrees from Mangum in 1980.

Some folks asked me yesterday if the haze around the area was from the fires
out west. Well, as it turns out, they were partially correct. There was haze
from fires, but thanks to the current upper-level flow pattern, that haze was
coming from Canada and Alaska! I saw this graphic from WGN meteorologist Tom
Skilling's Facebook page yesterday, the NOAA wildfire smoke analysis.



There are also a lot of fires in Oklahoma right now with folks burning fields,
so there was probably a bit of that in the air too.
