It's 1:35 pm ... do you know where your flamethrower is?

Some very 2011-esque temperatures going on the last few days. It is 1:35 pm as I
write this and maximum temps have already risen well into the triple-digits over
the western half of the state. Freedom even has the temerity (wait, be back in a
sec ...)

"te?mer?i?ty [tuh-mer-i-tee] Definition: reckless boldness; rashness."

yeah, temerity, to try and match Buffalo, the greatest place in the state, with
109 degrees! We'll see who wins that race.

Just in case, the highest June temperatures ever recorded in Oklahoma is 117
degrees on several different occasions: Hollis, June 24, 1953; Mangum, June 24,
27 and 28, 1980.

Hollis and Erick reached 115 degrees on June 26 of last year to take last June's
top prize, so the record for today will be tough to beat. Mangum and Hammon
reached 115 degrees on this date back in 1980 as well. Here is the all-time

what.



BTW, it's not a shock that those areas in drought are also the hottest. For
instance, the southeast corner's hotspot is also a drought-spot. As we talked
about ad nauseum last summer, once the soil moisture is gone and the vegetation
starts to wither, you get the Easy Bake Oven effect.

And Mother Nature has a million watt bulb.
