Time To Settle Up Those Office Bets

If your office is anything like the Ticker Office, you've probably been
engaged in heated and lively debate about whether last week was the
windiest week on record. In fact, it has probably been so important
that it has dominated office chatter, and spilled out into your social
life, family life, and dinner conversation as well.

You may have also noticed an epidemic rash of headaches, sleepiness,
phantom doctors' appointments, and "seriously, I've gotta take this"
phone calls. That's probably just coincidence.

Well, rest up, the answer has come. Last week was windy, but not the
windiest on record. It's not even the windiest of the year so far.
That honor goes to the week of Jan 27th through Feb 2nd. The average
statewide wind speed that week was 12.50 mph (which doesn't sound like
much, but it is, considering overnight hours and all sections of OK).

Last week's value of 12.27 mph was good enough for 26th place of the
745 weeks that have made up the Mesonet Era (since 1994).
