Rainfall Totals
Flooding continues to plague parts of Oklahoma. Here are some
impressive 24-hour Mesonet rainfall totals, as of 4pm today:
Walters 5.49"
Shawnee 5.27"
Waurika 4.61"
Minco 4.19"
Mt. Herman 3.32"
Grandfield 3.30"
Spencer 3.01"
Chandler 2.75"
By the way, June 5th was the last day with zero rainfall across
the state, which makes today the 20th consecutive day with
measurable precip somewhere within Oklahoma.
Records Were Made to Be Missed Entirely
If you get the e-mail version of the Ticker, you'll see that today's
Mesonet precip record was shattered. That's not so surprising,
considering that the Mesonet period of record is only 13 years long.
What's interesting is that the long-term statewide record (8.75" at
the NWS Cooperative station near Page, OK) was set way back in ...
um, 2004.
The fact that an 8.75" whopper event snuck in between stations of
one of the densest statewide observing networks out there ... this
shows how -- despite the widespread rains of recent weeks -- heavy
precip can be quite isolated during the summer.
