A Week of Climate Correlations: Out With a Whimper
Yesterday we looked at the persistence of temperature from month-to-month,
and saw that there was a decent feed-forward of temps during the summer
months. Today, we'll take a look at how precip regimes persist:
In other words, how does one month's wet/dry behavior portend precip
patterns in the next? Well, the answer is "not very well":
We were a bit surprised when we first stumbled across this a few years
back, and re-surprised again today. One would think that our history
of prolonged droughts would add a little more persistence to the mix.
And, the correlations are generally positive, but very small. This
small relationship is an indication that we have LOTS of dry months
around here, and they aren't all related to long-term dry spells.
