Forgive Us For Sounding Like A ... Broken Record
In an event which has become brutally passe, today's statewide
maximum temperature record will be shattered by multiple stations
this afternoon. Until a couple of hours ago, the warmest air
Oklahomans had ever observed on January 3rd was 85 F at the Hollis
Mesonet station in 1997. That mark was surpassed at Hollis today,
and eight more Mesonet stations topped or tied it. Altus, Mangum
and Camargo all registered 87 F by three o'clock, with Altus's 87.4
beating the other two by a fraction of a degree.
Dry/Drought conditions and extreme fire danger characterize the
afternoon.
