"Coop" is shorthand for the cooperative weather observer network
that has served our nation for parts of three centuries. The first
Coop data began in Oklahoma during territorial days in the 1890s,
with just a few stations along the Rock Island line (nee Chisholm
Trail). As the population flourished, so too did the number of
cooperative weather stations, peaking well above 200 stations
in the 1950s.

This rich data set provides the backbone of our state's climate
history and "normals". In fact, the network continues in operation
today. Keep an eye on the Coop Data pages as they evolve over the
coming months!
