Gravity Waves Clearly Observed at Panhandle Mesonet Sites
The Oklahoma Mesonet stations near Hooker and near Beaver recorded
some striking oscillations Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
A cluster of thunderstorms in western Kansas excited a wave pattern
that was picked a few hundred miles away in the panhandle.
The following meteograms show the waves in both the pressure traces
and the wind field. The oscillations appear to be about 30 minutes
from crest to crest.
Thanks to quick action by the Oklahoma Mesonet's operational staff,
one-minute data were collected for both stations, which allows
a very detailed look at the event!
