We'll Take What We Can Get

Much of Oklahoma got a much-needed temporary break from its severe
dry spell with some significant rainfall over the weekend. Here's
a map which shows the storm totals for Mesonet locations:

Despite the welcome rains, Oklahoma remains well below normal values
for the summer and autumn months:

Panhandle Stations Dip Below Freezing

Four panhandle Mesonet stations recorded minimum temperatures below
32 F this morning:

Station Minimum Time Under 32F
Beaver 30 F 2.25 hrs
Boise City 29 F 7.83 hrs
Goodwell 29 F 4.50 hrs
Hooker 31 F 0.42 hrs

Is this unusually early? Yes, although it's not unheard of, it is
definitely an early freeze. For most of the panhandle, the first freeze
of autumn occurred in September only 10% of the time in 1961-1990:

The median date for the first freeze of Autumn occurs sometime around
mid-October for the panhandle:
