Mesonet Communications Status Update
The Mesonet Operations and Computing staffs have successfully worked
around the hardware failure that caused last night's data outage.
The two groups have switched to a new protocol for communicating with
remote base stations. These base stations are the communications
centers that actually "talk" to one or more Mesonet stations. In
essence, Mesonet personnel have routed around the failed server in
Oklahoma City by reworking the communications protocol.
No further data outage related to this issue is foreseen.
A special thanks from the rest of us to the dozen or so individuals
who spent the better part of the night restoring Mesonet service.
The conversion to a simpler, more direct and more modern communications
infrastructure is still ongoing.
