Mesonet and ARM to Hold Science Fair Tomorrow

Saturday, February 19th is the day of the 8th Annual Oklahoma Mesonet /
Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program Science Fair! Since 1993,
more than a thousand students have competed in this unique Oklahoma event,
which is held on the Norman Campus of the University of Oklahoma.

The goal of the Fair is to promote the understanding of science, the
use of technology and the development of writing and presentation skills
in Oklahoma's classrooms.

Students participate by composing and completing an original scientific
investigation using weather data in one of the following categories:
Agriculture and Biology
Behavioral Sciences
Climatology and Forecasting
Moisture
Solar and/or Terrestrial Radiation
Standard Weather Parameters
Technology and Economics
Weather Systems
There's even a competition to build the best scale model and description
of an Oklahoma Mesonet station!

The projects are judged by professionals from Norman's Oklahoma Weather
Center, a confederation of federal, state and academic agencies from
various meteorological disciplines. The students are encouraged to be
present during the judging process. This gives them experience in asking
and answering scientific questions.

The exhibition commences tomorrow morning at the Sarkey's Energy Center.
Awards will be presented at 3:00 pm.

Good luck to all the competitors!
