Just a Summer Few Days Can ....
So far, 1999 has been a wet and mild year. But summer is still summer
in Oklahoma, which means it's a force to be reckoned with. The past
week has been rain free across the vast mjority of the state. Take a
look at how just a few rain-free Oklahoma July days can bump up
Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KDBI) values in Oklahoma.

The KDBI is a weather-driven model of near-surface soil moisture. In
other words, it incorporates weather data to provide an estimate of
the amount of moisture in the upper layers of the soil. The Oklahoma
Fire Danger Model provides a daily computation of KDBI, using AVHRR
satellite and Mesonet data.
