Missed it by THAT much

Hey, did you know that the 99 degrees recorded at Mangum on Saturday

http://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20170213/saturday-highs.png

was not only tied for the highest reading ever recorded during February or winter
(Dec-Feb) in Oklahoma, it also was the second highest reading recorded in the
country thus far in 2017! The only one to beat it was Rio Grande Village in Texas.
They hit 100 for the country's first triple-digit reading of the year. I think
that's a win will let Texas have with no complaints.

But now it be time for rain and snow, and the POSSIBLE good news is we could
get get a double-dose of moisture this week. That's been one of the big problems
we've seen since late summer...about one good storm a month, which does not allow
for any drought relief. At most, that's a recipe for status quo. And the consecutive
days between rain amounts of a quarter- and half-inch on the Mesonet is about
to celebrate a bunch of monthly absences of significant moisture.

About that rain, watch for showers to form across the west later this morning
and start heading east, providing a decent soak for the northern half of the
state (maybe a few flakes...you know who you are) and a good soak for the southern
half. Give or take a third or quarter of the state here or there. Here are some
helpful graphics from our NWS friends detailing the rain/snow situation.

The possible storm system for Sunday and Monday is still a bit iffy, but this
day 6-7 precip forecast (Saturday morning through Monday morning) map is
starting to pick it up just a bit.

It's not much yet, but neither was this storm 6-7 days out.

Fingers officially crossed for BOTH storms.
