Fryday

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20220923/todays-highs.png

Thanks for joining me today as we Tick about our endless summer of 2022. I've
been a bit busy trying to listen to every single Nickelback song in reverse for
hidden messages and the bleeding from my ears has been troublesome.

We've come to a turning point just about in our battle with the heat. Yesterday
was interesting, to say the least, and if I ever say the least then get to a
church because the end times are surely nigh (and we all know just how painful
that can be). We had downright late fall/early winter-ish type weather up in the
NW and the depths of summer in the southeast.

That 58 degrees at Hooker and Eva yesterday was the coldest maximum temperature
we've seen in the state since May 25 when May Ranch got down to 52 degrees. This
morning's lows were a brisk taste of fall as well.

Now we all knew this was coming, right? That summer would roar back today and
tomorrow, then another front on Sunday, then a week of seasonable-but-above-
normal temps all next week?

And while those 80s look nice tomorrow compared to where we've been for much of
the past 110 days, they are still a bit above normal. Now here's where it gets
interesting...or not. The outlooks for the first week of October are calling
for a return to the heat dome and back to full-fledged summer (as it would be
relative to the time of year).

Now let's take a look at three different model runs for forecast highs on
October 1...the GFS (American), ECMWF (European), and the GDPS (Canadian).

All I can say is that MOST Of you had better hope the GFS is wrong or we're
gonna be sitting in Summer City to start October. Well, that's not all I can
say, but I've said enough.
