Raggedy Man

Oh, we'll get to the rain here in a minute...heck, it's raining right now for
crying out loud!

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20240812/current-radar.png

What's the worst thing that comes after a big rain like yesterday?

Well yes, mosquitoes are bad...give it 3 days and we're all gonna be getting
vampired. But the WORST thing is the humidity. Heck (not rain this time...we did
that already), even yesterday the humidity was pretty horrific down in SW OK when
combined with the high temps in that rainless part of the state.

No, not "brainless"...you read that and thought of me, didn't ya?

So get ready for a sweaty, disgusting mess for the next week, if not longer.
No, I'm not talking about the Ticker and frankly, and even Garyly, I resent
your implication! I'm talking making your own gravy!

Now about that rainfall...OKC got all the glory because it topped it's Aug. 11
daily record (which goes back to 1890), and also it's all-time August daily
record, with 6.59 inches of rain yesterday. Very impressive. Also 7th place
in its all-time rainiest days on record.

But even that was eclipsed by some of our volunteer observers' totals from
yesterday, including 9.94 inches in Noble and 8.1 inches in Newcastle. Along
with lots of 5-7 inch amounts. They're a bit jumbled on the CoCoRaHS map, but
you get the idea.

No, CoCoRaHS is not a breakfast cereal (which should be avoided with Cherry
Pop-Tarts still available), it's the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow
Network. You can read about it here, and even become an "official" volunteer
observer yourownself!

https://www.cocorahs.org/

In the end, it's just a lot of rain from our venture into fall (for most of us)
over the last 3 days.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20240812/3day-rain-totals.png

That also saw record-breaking mild weather on Saturday.

But it ain't fall, is it. No, Summer Blaster run Oklahoma.

Embargo on!
