Planes Flames and Automobiles

You shouldn't throw cigarette butts out the window. That's how Houdini died, you
know! Maybe not, but we do have quite the situation brewing today in advance of
that "bomb" cyclone exploding to our northwest. We won't get the blizzard and all
that, but we are going to get the wind. And heat. And dryline. And with just
enough vegetation still dormant/dead from the late green up we've seen due to
cooler than normal weather, that's a perfect scenario for one heckuva wildfire
day. Our NWS friends have it spelled out pretty well in their graphics. Winds
are gonna gust to 60, and temps are gonna hit 90!

And from the Mesonet OK-FIRE program's own Dr. J.D. Carlson, it's not just western
Oklahoma residents that should be worried/careful of fire today. He notes that
due to the winds and heavy fuel loads in northeastern OK, especially Osage
County, fires could be a particular concern there as well. These maps in a
nutshell...the reds and oranges are bad (sorry Bedlam fans).

And this is the special text he has scrolling on the OK-FIRE webpage.

"High fire danger is expected across Oklahoma on Wednesday into
early Thursday morning with sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph with
higher gusts, especially west. 1-hour dead fuel moisture will
range from 3% west to 6% central and east. The fire danger will
be highest in the panhandle and western Oklahoma, but some areas
in northeast Oklahoma such as Osage County will also see very high
fire danger. Fire danger will again be high across the state from
late Thursday morning through early Thursday evening behind the
cold front that will have passed through the state early Thursday
morning."

I'm afraid not much moisture with this front. MAYBE a few showers as the front
approaches. MAYBE! That cold front will bring winter back, however. Watch for
highs 20-30 degrees colder tomorrow and Friday, and even colder on Saturday. We
might struggle to get out of the 40s (I know I did).

Let's worry about that horrific forecast when we come to it. At least we should
get much better moisture out of that system.
