Producer of such hits as "Great, my shoes melted," "Molten Seatbelt Buckle," and "I told you that would burn!" Now when we say "current heat wave," people look at us funny because we shouldn't be thinking out loud in public, but also because we mean that our CURRENT string of high temps above 100 degrees will be 11 days old today. https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230802/tmax.ge100_streak.png But of course we've had many more days than that...if not in actual air temperature then in heat index values. But here's the total number of days above 100 degrees for ACTUAL air temps. Up to 11 days (counting today) in SW OK, but in reality that's about the same for everywhere if you factor in the "feels like" temperatures. https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230802/tmax.ge100.png When all is said and done, we should see that streak go up to right around two weeks uninterrupted...give or take a few days here and there, depending on which part of the state you are in, because we have a few more days of this. https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230802/nws-norman-7day-temps.png I guess we shouldn't complain (well, *I* should complain but you shouldn't... well I'm doing all the writing, ain't I!!), we've certainly had worse. Still... that dry air out west is looking pretty good right now. And just think. Now don't think. Now think again. Okay, THIS time just think about where we'll be in a 2-3 months.
