"Dear Diary,

This is perhaps my last entry. I've mowed my grass for the last time this year.
I told my family it stopped growing because it froze, but the truth is it hasn't
frozen at my house yet this season. I turned off the sprinklers two weeks ago
to force it into dormancy in the drought. I fear they will find out. I hear drums
in the distance.

They are coming."

Well, what do you expect from an avowed mowing-hater?? Well, we did get a frost
at least. Maybe that'll buy me a repreive (Dear Diary, apparently the rule isn't
"i before e except after r). Has it frozen where you're at? There aren't many
places left that are freezeless this season thus far.



Now some of those places have had a freeze, but not a FREEZE freeze, like we're
seeing on Monday. Check out the actual number of hours freezing each Mesonet
site has seen so far this fall, with the first being in the Panhandle way back
on Oct. 19.



And even though we're having a cold front move through today, we're gonna see
a delicious stretch of what was colloquially known as "Indian Summer," and now
mostly referred to as "second summer"--that period of late fall with above
normal temperatures after the first freeze of the season.





This is more like our 3rd summer, or maybe even 4th, though.



I still see very little rain on the horizon. Or snow ('tis the season!).



Now about the chili...OF COURSE WITH BEANS! That way people will leave you alone
for the rest of the day.
