April fooled us
Another Friday Ticker, which means I'm speaking to the Wisenheimers and ne'er-do-
wells, like YOU. Okay, not YOU, specifically. YOU'RE alright. I'm talking to those
other clodhoppers that are crazy enough to be reading e-mails on a Friday, because
those people are hard to stop.
Don't worry too much about the snow. Even if it DOES happen, and I'm not saying
it's gonna, there shouldn't be too many impacts. Well, other than the oddity of
having snow in April in some parts of the state. And the models seem to be
coalescing on a SW to NE I-44 corridor type of snow, which puts OKC and Tulsa in
the hunt.
Now before you Wisenheimers (no, the other ones) start telling me this is
normal, well, the data say otherwise. In fact, for Tulsa, they've only seen
measurable snow (I'm using a tenth of an inch here) four times since 1900. Last
time for Tulsa was 0.1 inches on April 7, 2018, with a high total of 1.7 inches
on April 12, 1957.
And OKC has only seen it 7 times in April since 1931. The last time for OKC was
0.2 inches on both April 13 and 14, 2020, with a high of 3.3 inches on April 8,
1938.
So yes, not unheard of, but sorta rare for this late in the game. It happens
though. Will it this time? I'll tell you on Monday (things climatologists do).
Like I said, don't worry about the snow because the rain and storms will be what
get ya.
Oh yeah, heckit'srainingrightnowforcryingoutloud!
It's also storming, and flooding. And the bigtime storms don't come until later
today, for SE OK.
Today is definitely turn around don't drown, and stay weather aware time.
Finally, if the above doesn't get ya, the freeze on Sunday and Monday just
might. Your plants, at least.
"Enjoy" your weekend.
