Please?

Wow, what a haul! Sorry for those up in NW OK, my old stomping grounds (really
more like tiptoeing grounds...I try to stay low-key), but for the rest of us, not
bad at all. Here are some of the higher totals:

Cookson 3.95"
Wilburton 3.55"
Westville 3.32"
Idabel 3.31"
Stigler 3.28"
Webbers Falls 3.04"
Sallisaw 3.01"
Walters 3.00"

If you look at that list and say to yourself "But Gary, I don't know where
Westville is," then there may be a problem. Well, the first problem is that, as
we've talked about before, if you're name isn't Gary, you need to seek help. But
secondly, Westville is located in...far eastern Oklahoma.

So 40 of the Mesonet's 120 sites received at least 2 inches of rain, and
another 56 recorded at least an inch. That leaves 24 sites, mostly in NW OK,
under the inch mark. Boise City and Kenton came up with zilch, unfortunately.
But even some of those half-inch amounts will help that wheat that has been
dusted in, probably. Just enough soil moisture to germinate those seeds.

The rain isn't over. Heck, it's raining right now for crying out loud!

As Oliver asked, however...yes, you may have some more. There should be another
chance of rain coming up later this week on Thursday and Friday. Now some of
this forecast amount is coming from today's rain, but it does look like another
disappointment for NW OK, but an important reinforcing rain for areas SE of
there.

So a couple of good things going here...the reinforcing rain will fall on soil
that's been loosened up a bit by this rain. A bunch of it no doubt ran off
because of the drought baking that soil to a hard consistency. And another
thing, the temperatures aren't going to be 10-15 degrees above normal like
they have been for much of the time since early June as we see our first real
extended bout with fall temperatures.

Heck, it's cold right now for crying out loud!

Nah, it's just not the same.
