Keep the change
Mother Nature, having spent all her winter ammo with four (4!) major winter storms
over the last three (3!) months, has decided to pump the brakes in time for
Christmas. That might be good for some that are traveling this holiday season, but
not so much for those that wanted a white Christmas. Going all the way back to
Halloween week, then three major snows during the first three (3!... whoops,
forgot to turn off the ACME Significant Number-Text Generator) weeks of December,
we've ended up with a seasonal snowfall total that looks like this.
ALMOST everywhere in the state has had at least an inch of snow this season, save
for about the southern one-fifth of the state. They've had flurries and minor
accumulations for the most part, and a bit of ice (the ice totals aren't reflected
in this map).
Now we look forward to this week, Christmas week, where the big excitement will
be cold front on Wednesday. That front will resemble how I like my martinis: strong
and dry. I've actually never had a martini, but why should James Bond have all
the fun? Anyway, that front will come with winds gusting from the north at about
45 mph, so fire danger will rise along with it. And it will cool us down from
our mild-for-December weather we'll see the next couple of days.
We'll only see a minor chance of precip with the front, down across far
southeastern Oklahoma (and none of it frozen). Highs will drop into the 30s and
40s Wednesday behind the front, and lows will be down into the teens and 20s
for the next couple of days before we rebound a bit. Christmas Day will start
off cold but manage to warm up just a bit with light northerly winds and lots
of clear sky.
We've always said that sometimes boring weather is good. I know many wanted a
bit of snow for Christmas, but no luck this year.
There's always next year!
