BOO or BRR
Okay, first things first, that's not a map that shows how cold it will be right
at prime trick or treat time for the kiddos, but I also remember from long ago
that older kids/younger adults tend to celebrate just a tad longer than the
youngsters. But, that map SORT OF represents what you can expect tomorrow night,
even though it's actually the forecast lows for Wednesday. Our NWS friends have
a bit more insight.
So it won't be extremely cold...nothing like Oct. 1991 Halloween cold, but chilly
nonetheless WITH a chance of moisture thrown in. The front that's cooling us down
and windy-ing us up this morning is nearly through the state.
As a small storm system travels through the area tomorrow night, that bit of cold
air will give a chance of flurries (up north) early tomorrow and a cold drizzling
rain across other parts of the state. Nothing too heavy, though. We need the
rain, but in the case of Halloween, let's just skip it tomorrow, okay?
But the good news, we don't have to worry about a hard freeze anymore since
the front at the end of last week took care of that problem. Check out the
number of hours below freezing recorded by the Mesonet since last Thursday,
AND the hard freeze numbers (28 degrees or below).
Very impressive for northeast OK as they spent the most time under the
influence (you know who you are!) of that cold air mass. Vinita spent as many
as 23 hours at or below freezing. Medicine Park in Comanche County only reached
32 degrees, and for less than an hour, but they are a bit higher and since the
cold air mass was shallow, they poked up into the warmer air just a bit. But
the real prize goes to BUFFALO(!!) with the coldest reading of the month thus
far at 18 degrees. That's the lowest temperature recorded in the state since
March 14 when the Eva Mesonet site recorded 17 degrees.
Bundle up the kiddos tomorrow and maybe throw an umbrella or two in their
goodie bag.
My goodie bag? 80s on Thursday. Not a trick, that's a treat!
