You're doing it wrong
Yeah, what happened to the kaboom? As in, what happened to our wettest month of
the year (for some...others it's may, Panhandle it's July)? What happened to our
mid-May through mid-June deluges? You know, the last 30 days?
Well, it's not all bad...still some areas that received tons and tons (literally)
of rain, but lots of bad colors on those departure and pct of normal maps. And
June itself, which I've shown before as THE wettest month of the year for some
areas, while rivaling May just about everywhere, has been disappointing indeed.
ZOUNDS!! That percent of normal map looks bad. Way too many single digits for
my liking. It's as if we've skipped June and headed right to July. The
temperatures and dewpoints we've seen lately look very July-ish to me.
And it's not as if it's going to get cooler from here, either. We're going to
be even more July-ish as we head towards July.
All of this begins after a somewhat mild, drier (RH AND precip) last 30 days,
so it will be a bit of a shock if you're not already shocked from yesterday.
The good news? If June is July, and July turns into August, that means August
will be September! Good luck with that.
Other good news...there is a chance of rain over the next few days. Now it might
evaporate as it hits the ground, increasing our heat index, but at least it
will be wet for awhile. Some severe weather is possible, which isn't much of a
shock given the heat and moisture available as this storm system moves through.
Unfortunately, we won't be seeing our normal June deluges. A half-inch maybe if
you're lucky?
We may have to hope for a wet July. Again, good luck with that.
