Hughes County Gets New Mesonet Site At Holdenville

The Oklahoma Mesonet would like to introduce the birth of a brand new bouncing
baby Mesonet site at Holdenville (HOLD)! And now that we've done that, we'd
also like to announce the elementary, junior high, high school and college
graduations of HOLD. Like gazelle, Mesonet sites tend to hit the ground running
and grow up fast (Oklahoma weather can be fairly predatory, as we all know).
And now my faithful assistant Jim Fowler will...okay, STOP IT! And yes, I used
to watch "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" growing up.

Here are the particulars of the new station at Holdenville:

Station Number: 134
3.0 miles ESE of Holdenville
County: Hughes
Latitude: 35.070730? (35? 4' 14" N)
Longitude: -96.355950? (96? 21' 21" W)
Elevation: 280 meters above Mean Sea Level
Born on: May 29, 2009

HOLD replaces the previous Mesonet site in Hughes County at Calvin (CALV) that
was decommissioned back in March of 2009.

So be on notice, Holdenville residents. No longer will you be able to exaggerate
about the weather. No more "hey, it was 115.6 degrees here today" when it was
really 115.3 degrees, or claiming a maximum gust of 23 mph when it was only
22.4 mph. The Oklahoma Mesonet is on the job! Alright alright, calm down.
Who am I to take away an Oklahoma birthright? If challenged, just start babbling
about "instrument margin of error" or "microscale meteorology". How do you think
I made it though college?

p.s. If you feel bad about missing all those graduations, send cash!
