Tense Situation Being Watched Closely
The atmosphere near Will Rogers World Airport is fast approaching 100
degrees today, sparking tense bated-breath discussions on whether it
will actually go through with it ("Honestly, did you think it would
come to this? Today?").
Anyway, if the atmosphere does pull the trigger on 100, it will be
the first 100 recorded at the airport this year. Of the 60-or-so
years on record, only nine have escaped triple digits at OKC (Tulsa's
record is nearly identical). Of those years that do break 100,
the average date is about July 8, so this would actually be a couple
weeks later than the average date.
Also, the critical "50/50 chance" date is July 29th. This is the
date beyond which, if you ain't yet broke 100, it is actually more
likely that you won't do it at all (again, Tulsa's statistics are
roughly similar).
