First, A Correction ...
In our zeal to discuss OCS's new drought monitoring package, we
mistakenly gave OCS the credit for developing the Fractional Water
Index soil moisture indicator. The folks in OCS's Research Group
have reminded the Ticker that the FWI was actually developed by
Jeanne Schneider and Crew at the USDA-ARS Lab in El Reno, in
collaboration with scientists in Norman and Stillwater.
(as with all factual errors discovered in Ticker material, all
evidence of our little faux pas will be purged from our archives,
and it will appear as if we got it right the first time)
OCS Seasonal Summary Available
Some Ticker subscribers may have already seen it, but in case you
haven't, please take a look at the newest OCS periodical: The OCS
Seasonal Summary.
The Seasonal Summary is issued as a companion to the OCS Monthly
Summary, but will delve more deeply, and broadly, in Oklahoma's
climate. Each quarter's publication is thematic, with informative
articles, vibrant color graphics, and wonderful photography from
Oklahoma Mesonet Field Technicians.
To access your (free!) online copy of the Seasonal Summary, click:
http://climate.mesonet.org/seasonal_summary.html
and select "OK Climate Fall 2003" for the inaugural issue.
It's really, really well done, and the Ticker doffs its cap to
climatologist-and-editor Gary McManus for exceeding all of our
already-high expectations.
