First Freeze of Autumn: Some Figures

So, where does this stand compared to history?  You can see for yourself
with the following three maps.  The first two show the dates of the
earliest and latest first freezes of fall since record-keeping began
a hundred or so years ago.  The third shows the average date of the
first freeze of autumn, based on data collected from 1971 to 2000.
