Three Mesonet / Micronet Stations Move

Apparently taking a cue from the Texas Rangers, the Oklahoma Mesonet
and ARS Micronet have made an above-normal number of roster moves this
summer. Two veteran stations have been replaced with rookies, and
another has moved to a new position.

The original Claremore site (CLAR) has been decommissioned and a new
site (CLRM) has been constructed on the other side of the Rogers State
campus. This move was made to improve the station's siting
characteristics.

Mesonet management sent a clear message that no station on the roster
is untouchable when it retired the Norman station (NORM). NORM was one
of the network's flagship stations, and has been the, uh, -norm- in
Norman for nearly ten years. Norman's new station (NRMN) is located
about a mile southeast of the original, between Max Westheimer airport
and the National Severe Storms Lab. NORM will continue to operate
through the end of the month, which gives Mesonet personnel a chance
to collect intercomparison data from the two sites.

ARS Micronet station A131 remains on the roster, but at a new position.
It was moved a few yards to improve siting, but not far enough to
warrant a name change.

Mesonet Supports Reconstruction Effort on I-40

A special portable Mesonet station was delivered last month to the
engineers rebuilding the I-40 bridge near Webbers Falls. While it is
not a full-scale Mesonet station, it provides those variables that are
critical to determine concrete curing times (namely, temperature,
relative humidity and wind data). The data are important to the
efficiency and safety of the project.
