On this Day in Oklahoma Weather History

Now that summer is officially here, it is probably a good time to
acknowledge the 20th anniversary of the drought and heatwave of 1980.
More than one thousand people lost their lives during the event, which
caused more than 20 billion (1980) dollars of damages throughout the
central and eastern U.S.

In Oklahoma, Will Rogers World Airport observed fifty days of 100+
temperatures. Anybody who lived here in 1980 probably remembers the
swarms of grasshoppers, as Oklahoma and Texas literally suffered
through a plague of the little beasts.
