Today in Oklahoma Weather History

Around sunset on June 12, 1942, a large tornado struck southwest
Oklahoma City (a mile or two north of what is now Will Rogers World
Airport), killing 35 people and injuring more than one hundred in
its two-mile-long path.

At the time, it was the deadliest Oklahoma City tornado on record,
and would remain so until the May 3, 1999 storm would kill more than
forty in and around the metro area.
