What is it?
A look at the Kenton meteogram shows a periodic variation in the wind
speed for about 12-13 hours last night. Each rise and fall in the
wind speed lasts about 45 minutes.
Maybe a reader can give a hands-down explanation of what was going
on at Kenton (which also showed up, to a lesser extent, at Medicine
Park, Slapout and several northwest Oklahoma Mesonet stations, because
the writer certainly isn't going to try at this juncture!
Some hints: The fact that it seemed to show up at Medicine Park
may be a clue that it has to do with rippling of the boundary layer.
There was a very shallow, very steep inversion observed in the 1200 Z
Dodge City sounding.
Is it some sort of surface sloshing, in response to waves along the
boundary layer? Or is the boundary actually making it to the surface?
We'll keep the images around in:

Perhaps we'll have a firm explanation soon.
Speaking of Kenton
Kenton and Boise City are showing a surface dew point depression of
more than 70 degrees Fahrenheit, as of 4:30 this afternoon.
