Fall Fail

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/814temp.new.png

I ALWAYS ROOTED FOR THE COYOTE!

There, I said it. That feels really good to get off my chest. I couldn't stand
that bird's "MEEP MEEP!" or that idiotic looking comb on top of its head. And
the smugness! You just know that bird was a jerk in real life when it wasn't
filming those cartoons. And Wile E. Coyote WAS a super-genius, after all. so the
Road Runner should have paid proper respect. I mean, just once the coyote could
have won. What would it have hurt?

Speaking of hurt (CLUMSY SEGUE ALERT!), enjoy our early fall-like temperatures
for the next few days, because the heat dome is building back directly over
Oklahoma just in time for the holiday weekend. Labor Day will be "belabored" by
scorching hot weather!

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

HAHA!

haha

ha

Oh.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/nws-norman-7day-temps.png

Triple-digit temps will return to the state as early as Friday, but don't be
shocked if some show up on Thursday.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/friday-forecast-highs.png

And if you're are going to the OU or OSU home football games that day...take
a bag to pour yourself into as you melt. But remember, it needs to be a clear
bag, per stadium rules.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/saturday-forecast-highs.png

OU gets the worst end of this stick with an 11am start time, meaning full sun
for the entire game. OSU's 6pm start not so bad as long as you're under an
awning for tailgating. If you look at Wile E. getting splatted above, though,
the second round of games on Sept. 9 are in heat jeapordy as well.

QUICK, SPELL JEOPARDY! See, you missed it.

Check out these temps at 1pm on Saturday, Sept. 9, from the notoriously hot
American GFS weather forecast model.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/saturday-sept9-1pm-temps.png

It probably won't be THAT hot, but that fantasy-cast look nearly 2 weeks out
shows that the heat dome is expected to remain pretty well entrenched over us
for awhile. That can certainly change, of course. The OSU game is in Tempe,
AZ, that weekend, so oddly enough they may get a break by playing in Arizona!

Okay, enough with the bad news coming, how about those temperatures this
morning? Not record-setting or anything, about 10 degrees above those marks,
but certainly a welcome change from waking up to 83 degrees and soupy!

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/todays-lows.png

And today's highs will be just a bit below normal or close to normal, and we'll
see that continue through Wednesday or so.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/monday-forecast-highs.png

The worst outlook for the week is the rain, however, looking more sparse than
my scalp! The cold front scoured the air right down to the Gulf of Mexico, and
the heat dome coming back will stifle any future moisture chances.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/sept2-6-precip-outlook.png

We'll even go back to our old friend the Notorious G.F.S. for a precip fantasy-
cast out to Sept. 12.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20230828/precip-thru-sept12.png

Pretty sparse indeed. All that can change in a hurry, as stated earlier. Just
need a dip in the jet stream (dips can happen anywhere...there's one writing
THIS, after all) or a tropical system and poof...pattern change.

And one is needed, because this is bad. Really bad. There was a bit of rain
over the weekend with the cold front, but much less than forecast and way too
sporadic to be of much benefit.

Come to think of it, I never rooted for either Daffy Duck or Elmer Fudd. Maybe
Yosemite Sam when he was trying to blow out that match that Bugs Bunny threw
into the powder room on the pirate ship.

I'm not sure what that says about me, but I'll let the mental health
professionals sort that out later.
