BAH HUMBUG!

It's a very sad day in Ticker-dom...not only did my hair get messed up in Saturday night's storms ("hair" is singular, of course), but I had to actually put on a jacket yesterday. Oh, I still wore shorts, but the jacket was quite necessary.
What? No, I wore jeans to Church. What do you think I am, from Florida or something??
So much to talk about...let's start with the rain. It was a darned good rain, and if you like storms, you got a bit of that as well.

Yeah, the severe weather sucked, but if'n you want rain in Oklahoma, that's generally part of the deal. Now the rains certainly helped, but still too many folks missed out, and of course we need lots more to actually start ending any drought across the state.

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20221017/mesonet.rainfall.quarterinch.png A pretty good singular rain event for some, pretty crappy for others (WE SEE YOU NORTHERN OKLAHOMA!). And now we need to follow it up with another good rain to bolster the drought relief, because even this rain doesn't end any of our short-term deficits, and DEFINITELY not our long-term deficits.

But we have improved somewhat in those heavier total areas, such as is indicated in our 16-inch plant available water.

Some pretty nice totals here and there, but not nearly enough. We will definitely take it, however. Is there more coming? Well, not this week, but maybe early next week.

Temperatures? Do we really have to go back to talking about temperatures? Oh, I'm actually writing this? Well, in that case, NO!
Wait, I'm being informed "yes." Okay, here goes. With the frost/freeze watches and warnings on for the next two nights, you can relax because we've already had our first freeze of the season in our state in the Oklahoma Panhandle...the rightful owner for first claim on winter. Sorry NE OK. And Kenton gets the prize for lowest reading at 29 degrees...sorry Eva.
https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20221017/todays-lows.png
Heck, it's cold right now for crying out loud (sorry, borrowed from my rain proclamation)! Especially when you throw in the wind, or another sentence fragment.
https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20221017/current-wind-chills.png
But don't worry, we'll have our second or third summer...maybe fourth, it's hard to keep track of...coming up later in the week.

And despite the rain (the vegetation don't care about no rain, it's all dead or going dormant!), fire danger will be up for the foreseeable future. And the indicators are still up into the critical danger territory for large wildfires.

So congrats to those that saw relief, and whatever improvements that came with it. But now we need reinforcing rains, or dare I say it...snows? so all that means, even though we asked nicely, is that we'll get lots of ice storms.
Hey, don't blame me! I miss summer already.
