Stay PFFTT!

https://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20220824/OK-2022-weather.png

Alert the neighbors and lock up the kids and pets, the Olde Ticker's Almanac (we
put the "e" on old to class the joint up) has released it's forecast for the
remaining four months of 2022. When we released this thing earlier in June we
were all talking (okay, me) about how this summer was looking a lot like 2011, but
would probably end up like 2012, with drought like 2013, and then we'd end up
partying like it's 1999 (google it kids). Partying in 1999 for me meant going
to see "The Sixth Sense" over and over and blurting out "HE'S DEAD" at the
beginning of the movie and then running.

Oh, SPOILER ALERT!

But don't get spoiled by this forecast, it's mostly nonsensical gibberish dreamed
up by the fevered mind of a fevered (I took medicine, didn't work) State
Climatologist who has been burned by Mother Nature too many times. One of the only
things we're really sure about is that "Saving Private Ryan" should have won
Best Picture over "Shakespeare In Love", and the only other thing we're really
sure about is that late October is the surest time to get crazy weather in fall
across Oklahoma.

Yeah, some kind of -mageddon is coming.

As for our winter forecast, I tried to think of the most harmless thing.
Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly
destroy us.

It's the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

What's that mean though? Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and
seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...the dead rising
from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... MASS HYSTERIA!

Or maybe just really warm with some bad snowstorms thrown in here and there?

Before we get there, though, we need to worry about the next week. And despite
the rainfall forecast last week falling off the horse for the northern two-thirds
of the state, we're hopping right back on to show you another chance of rain
coming up this weekend into early next week.

The usual caveats apply...we're still a few days out and this forecast can and
probably will change a bit, but it represents our next best hope for significant
moisture in the state. and we continue to see a lack of summer over the next
week or two, at least the summer we recently left where we were routinely
10-15 degrees above normal. So more normal to below normal days than the previous
70+ days.

The exception is up there in northern Oklahoma that has started to slip by with
more drought than moisture. The lack of soil moisture in that area, and slipping
a bit down into central Oklahoma, will allow that later summer/early fall sun
to continue heating the ground with an efficient transfer of energy from the sun
into sensible heat. That allows that area of the state to slip back into summer
(but not really SUMMER summer) mode until they also get good rain. The temperature
forecast for the next couple of days is a good indication of that.

Still no sign of the return of that dreaded heat dome. It's still rooted out
West for now.

Now how about a 2023 outlook? Nope, no spoilers allowed.
